INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PETRA TOURS
Dear Guest,
Thank you for joining our tour to Petra, one of the "New 7 Wonders of the World." Besides Petra's glory, you will also enjoy famous Jordanian hospitality, and experience new cultures and people. Please read the following information: This sheet refers mainly to our one Day regular Petra Tour, but you can use most of it also for other Petra Tours. Our Staff will gladly answer further questions.
- please don't forget your passport
- Transfers between your Eilat hotel and the Rabin / Arava border (and back) are in our Israeli registered vehicles. Be sure not to leave anything in this vehicle. After the Israeli and Jordanian border formalities, you switch to one of our Jordanian registered vehicles for your journey to Petra.
- The drive from the Rabin / Arava border to Petra is approximately 2 hours. The visit to Petra involves a walk of 4.5 Km / 2.80 miles each way. The cobble stoned path is on a very slight decline on the way in, and incline on the way out. As one enters and exits Petra at the exact same place, your guide will walk with you into the site (providing all of the explanations about Petra). After lunch, the guide will give you the opportunity to do some exploring on your own and to walk back at your own pace. He will set an exact time and place to meet you as you will exit the site on your own. (It's not possible to get lost as there is only one way in and out)
- Arrival time back in Eilat is between 18.00 – 19.00. Lunch is included in your package, but not beverages (pay directly). You don't need special clothing in Jordan. Please wear comfortable shoes. During the winter months we recommend warm clothes (it can snow!). During the summer, we recommend light comfortable clothing and a hat.
- Border regulations permit no food + 1 bottle of a non alcoholic beverage into Jordan. Please contact our office if you have any special food requirements.
- Most nationalities obtain their Jordanian Visa directly at the Rabin / Arava Border. If you have Israeli citizenship you MUST leave and enter Israel with your Israeli passport (no matter what other passports you have). If your nationality needs a pre arranged visa to enter Israel, be sure that you have a multiple entry visa to Israel as you'll be leaving the country for the tour to Petra.
- In Jordan you can use US$ and € (Euro), but no Shekels. There are banks (for currency exchange) on both sides of the border.
- The 700 meter horse-ride at the entrance to Petra is included in your package. A tip of (US$3 = 2JD) should be given to the "horse-boys" for their service. There are also chariots, camels, and donkeys available at an extra charge. The Jordanian authorities advise that the use of all these animals is at users own risk, as all animals are not insured.
- As Middle East tradition will have it, often people will approach you and try to sell you souvenirs, coins, carpets, and all kinds of objects. Whether or not you make a purchase from them is certainly your decision. However, please note that often items that the merchant claims to be "ancient" or "Roman" are actually not. If during the course of your tour, locals approach you asking any special tips or payment, simply refer them to your guide. Your guide is there for you not only to provide you with information, but as a "bridge between cultures." During the course of any questioning or negotiations, your guide will not be able to advise you that the "antiques" are not genuine, so please take note of this in advance.
In any case of emergency please call our 24/7 office phone [+972]-(0)50-3392525.
